What is Argentine Tango?

Originating in the early 20th century in the slums of Buenos Aires, the Tango developed under many cultural influences. It is believed to comprise a mix of dances, including the Waltz and the Polka brought to Argentina by European Immigrants, the Cuban Habanera and African Candombe.

Today, it has become one of the most popular dances in the world, recognised for its intimacy, unique music and use of improvisation.

It is accessible to whoever wishes to learn it because its essence lies in human connection and self-expression.

"The secret of tango is in this moment of improvisation that happens between step and step. It is to make the impossible thing possible: to dance silence."

~ Carlos Gavito
